The Force is the second studio album by English thrash metal band Onslaught, released in May 1986. More successful than their previous album, Power From Hell, The Force is considered a thrash metal classic by fans and critics, and the band's first to feature Sy Keeler on vocals (he would depart in 1988, only to return for the 2007 album Killing Peace).

In 1986, Onslaught released The Force, and what can I even say about an album I rate so highly? It ripped the heads off everyone who heard it. And it’s still doing the same thing now. With thrash, the important thing is riffs – how many of them you have, how good they are and how long you can keep up the high speed tempos and aggression and not end up boring the listener. Onslaught rules at this because they chug out 7 long, long epics of thrashing intensity that NEVER get boring. There's no jacking around with The Force, at the start you'll find yourself falling into a hellish pit of constant mere endless headbanging thrash and there's pretty much no exit in sight. Just check out that title for the last track, Thrash Till' The Death, they aren't kidding and that's exactly what you'll get here.

The band I refer to is Onslaught, a band that never made a real impact but released one outright classic album and a string of good to great releases that showed a huge level of variety. Their classic album is entitled The Force and was released in 1986, the year of many of those albums mentioned before. When you think of the Force, it is often hard to not think of the mythical power in the Star Wars universe, and this album is somewhat like that as it comes out of nowhere and completely takes you off your feet.

The second album "The Force" was more thrashy, but still 100% evil. Onslaught like Possessed are one of those somewhat overlooked leaders of the mid-80's power thrash death metal movement. Later I bought Power From Hell and it is a raw, but powerful thrash album similar to Slayer's debut. Finally with the Force I've heard Onslaught at the peak of their powers.

This album is much improved on it's previous effort, Power from Hell. The band has been added to through Sy Keeler on vocals and Jase Stallard on guitar.

UK thrashers Onslaught will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their album The Force, performing the title in it’s entirety on a string of dates in Europe. Classic tracks from the band’s catalogue will also be performed.
