Jefferson Airplane is the eighth and final studio album by San Francisco rock band Jefferson Airplane, released on Epic Records in 1989. Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady all returned for the album and supporting tour, though Spencer Dryden did not participate. The album and accompanying tour would mark the last time Jefferson Airplane would perform together until their 1996 induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Marty Balin would not sing again as an active member of Jefferson Airplane until their short-lived reunion album and tour of 1989. He was coaxed onstage at the Airplane’s final concert at Winterland in 1972 for an encore of Baby You Wear Your Dresses Too Short. The simulcast of the concert ensured that high quality tapes were in circulation the very next day, and it was not long before bootleg albums surfaced. The next night, Jefferson Airplane returned to Winterland without Balin.

Live at the Fillmore East (Jefferson Airplane album). Live at the Fillmore East is the 1998 release of a 1968 concert by Jefferson Airplane at New York's Fillmore East for the 30th anniversary of its opening. It should not be confused with the similarly named Sweeping Up the Spotlight: Live at the Fillmore East, the 1969 concert (also by Jefferson Airplane) recording released in 2007.

Jefferson Airplane's Psychedelic pop and Acid Rock songs helped put San Francisco on the musical map of the 1960s. The band was formed in 1965 with Signe Anderson as lead vocalist. She was soon replaced by Grace Slick of the Great Society and the new, improved Jefferson Airplane landed on a hit with "Somebody To Love" from their timely 1967 album, Surrealistic Pillow (the same lp that hit with the alleged druggie anthem "White Rabbit"). Loaded with swirling guitars and lysergic solos, this album provided part of the soundtrack to San Francisco's Summer of Love
