Black Sabbath are the forefathers of heavy metal, says Rick Rubin, the producer of the band’s most recent album 13. They may well be the heaviest band of all time. And I don’t know of a more influential band other than The Beatles. The best Sabbath albums made during Ozzy Osbourne’s long absence featured the man who replaced Ozzy after he was fired in 1979 – Ronnie James Dio. And every Sabbath album, from 1970 to 2013, has been shaped by Tony Iommi – the band’s sole ever-present, and the undisputed master of the heavy metal riff. Sabbath are gearing up for impeding retirement with an appearance at the Download festival, though their influence has carried across generations, through era-defining bands such as Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer, Guns N’ Roses, Pantera, Soundgarden and Queens Of The Stone Age.

The Best of Black Sabbath is a double CD compilation album by Black Sabbath released in 2000 on the Sanctuary Records label. Its 32 songs are presented chronologically from the band's first 11 albums, spanning the years 1970 to 1983. Black Sabbath's classic six-album run, from 1970s debut Black Sabbath through 1975's Sabotage is celebrated with three to six songs from each album

Best Black Sabbath album to have ever been recorded! Best lineup of Black Sabbath, by far: Ozzy Osbourne - vocals Tony Iommi - guitar Geezer Butler - bass Bill Ward - drums. Black Sabbath is the beggining of a new era with songs like black sabbath (the tritone makes the song sound really doomy and scary) NIB with that amazing distorted bass solo (bassically) the wizard with a wah wah riff mixed with an amazing harmonica perfomance by ozzy, warning and evil woman are amazingly permormed covers with amazing solos and wicked world the name.

The 15th Sabbath album doesn’t sound much like Sabbath at all. The riffs are conventional mainstream metal: it would have sounded perfectly of its time five years earlier, but by 1990 – with Ozzy Osbourne-era Sabbath being exhumed by grunge and stoner bands – something more like the band of 20 years before might have hit home a lot harder. 15. The Eternal Idol (1987). Of course, Gillan’s lyrics were awful and very un-Sabbath, but it was the best record he had been involved in since his time in Deep Purple. 10. Never Say Die (1978). The final album of the original Ozzy era has a terrible reputation, but it’s a quirky and enjoyable record, as long as you don’t expect Sabbath Even Bloodier Sabbath. Master of Reality was Black Sabbath’s most subtle album yet and their most bludgeoning. Ward’s jazzy drumming – somehow swinging and precise – propelled even the most straightforward of the tracks.

The original lineup of Black Sabbath was on its last legs when they went into the studio to cut Never Say Die! in early 1978. It was their eighth album in as many years and they were simply tapped out, not to mention terribly hobbled by cocaine and alcohol abuse. The Ramones opened for them on their last tour, and the band started to realize their sound was a little passé. He was clearly the best man for the job, and in 1983 they entered the studio to cut Born Again. This extremely brief period of Black Sabbath has been mocked for years. All that said, Born Again is far from a musical disaster. The fusion of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath yielded some very nice songs. Check out "Zero the Hero" for proof.

Black Sabbath's classic 1970s output has been repackaged countless times over the years, but undoubtedly one of the best collections to surface is the aptly titled Best of Black Sabbath on Sanctuary. Comprised of 32 tracks on a pair of discs, Best Of focuses primarily on the "Ozzy years," but does include a small sampling of the short-lived Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan eras.

Think Black Sabbath were evil, just cause they sang from the . V of Lucifer? Heck no, they were practically hippies! Well, they dressed much better, but let's be honest, back in their early touring days they probably smelled just as bad. Regardless, philosophically they fit right in with the Woodstock generation, kicking off their second and best-selling album with this strong anti-Vietnam war anthem  . True, this song, one of the most enduring mosh-pit anthems of all time, does indeed promise revolution and marching in the streets.
